What is Christian counseling?

Christian counseling takes a broad approach by integrating psychological insights and therapeutic techniques within a Christian framework. Faith isn’t the sole compass; it’s intertwined with various psychological theories and counseling methodologies. In other words, Christian counselors value a Christian foundation AND clinical excellence.

As part of their training journey, a professional counselor must:

  1. Earn a master’s degree (or higher) in counseling
  2. Complete thousands of hours of client care under the guidance of a licensed clinical supervisor
  3. Pass the licensure examinations and requirements to become a fully licensed counselor in their state
  4. Pursue additional continuing education and professional development activities to maintain their license

All of the counselors at Cornerstone are participating in this multi-year process to offer excellent client care to you.

The fact of the matter is that all counselors come with their own world view, which will influence the therapy that they provide. If you wish to receive professional therapy from a Christian, Cornerstone is the place for you. While our counselors come from a variety of backgrounds and denominations, we all rally around the same Statement of Faith. As Christian counselors, we are uniquely able to offer prayer and read Scripture with you if desired, as well as address spiritual issues (such as church hurt, religious questions, and more). We believe, after all, that true and complete healing doesn’t come without the loving involvement of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
