WHERE FAITH AND THERAPY MEET

What Is Christian Counseling?

Christian counseling is a form of therapy that combines Christian faith and biblical principles with evidence-based mental health care. It recognizes that emotional, relational, and spiritual health are deeply connected.

At Cornerstone Christian Counseling, our counselors are trained mental health professionals who love Jesus. They have all completed or are completing graduate-level clinical education, supervised counseling experience, and state licensure requirements.

The words “counselor” and “therapist” are often used interchangeably in the mental health field. Christian counseling is not simply offering spiritual advice instead of therapy — it combines research-supported therapeutic approaches with a Christian worldview.

Everyone brings a worldview into counseling. The question is whether that worldview aligns with what matters to you. We provide a safe space to explore your mental health, relationships, faith, doubts, and spiritual questions without having to separate your faith from your healing journey.

Through compassionate, clinical care rooted in Christian values, our counselors can help you:

CHRIST INTEGRATED INTO CARE

How Faith Fits into Counseling

Your faith is an important part of your story, and you don’t have to leave it at the door when you begin counseling. Christian counseling creates space to explore how your beliefs and relationship with God intersect with your mental and emotional health.

If desired, your counselor can also integrate Scripture, prayer, and other Christian spiritual practices into your counseling experience. The way faith is incorporated is personal and can look different from person to person.

FAITH-BASED CARE FOR ALL

Counseling for Every Stage of Life

Christian counseling is about more than addressing a problem or checking a box on a list. It gives you a place to bring the things you’re carrying — your relationships, struggles, questions, hopes, and the experiences that have shaped you. Whether you’re coming to counseling on your own, with your spouse or partner, or as a family, our counselors can meet you where you are and help you take meaningful steps toward healing and growth.

HEAL AS AN INDIVIDUAL

You can achieve the freedom and hope that you deserve. We have counselors who specialize a number of issues, including trauma, anxiety, and grief.

GROW AS A COUPLE

Whether you’re about to walk down the aisle or it’s been 40 years since you said, “I do,” we want to help you have a healthy marriage.

THRIVE AS A FAMILY

No two families are alike, and each season can bring unique challenges. Our counselors work with clients of all ages to help keep your family strong.

YOUR THERAPEUTIC JOURNEY

What Can I Expect with Christian Counseling?

We begin by understanding your unique story — your background, challenges, relationships, and faith. Your counselor will work with you to identify areas where you feel stuck and develop practical tools to help you move toward healing and growth.

While every counseling journey looks different, many people experience a process that includes:

1. Understanding your story
Your counselor creates a safe, compassionate space to explore your history, emotions, beliefs, and obstacles.

2. Identifying patterns and pain points
Together, you can uncover thoughts, behaviors, and experiences that may be affecting your mental health and relationships.

3. Developing healthy tools for change
Using evidence-based therapeutic approaches, your counselor helps you build skills to navigate emotions and handle life’s hardships.

4. Growing in healing and hope
Counseling is a journey of growth that can help you experience greater emotional health, stronger connections, and deeper understanding of yourself.

How Does Christian Counseling Work?

What's the difference between Biblical counseling and christian counseling?

Christian counseling stands on the truth of scripture to guide us, while taking into account what research and scientific evidence says. We focus on getting to the bottom of why people are out of alignment and what’s contributing to these behaviors.

Biblical counseling tends to be less likely to incorporate psychological theories or techniques. It often relies solely on the Bible as the source of truth for addressing emotional and behavioral issues.

At Cornerstone, we define Christian counseling is a type of therapy that incorporates Christian faith and biblical wisdom alongside graduate-level clinical education and evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Our Christian counselors provide professional mental health support while honoring the importance of faith and values in a person’s healing journey.

Note: The terms “counseling” and “therapy” are often used interchangeably in mental health. For example, we accept two types of mental health licensures in the state of Colorado: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

Yes! At Cornerstone, our Christian counselors incorporate evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as:

… and many other research-supported methods. Because of our Christian beliefs, your counselor can also bring prayer, Scripture, and spiritual discussions as part of your therapy sessions, if desired. Our goal is to support you as a whole person: emotionally, relationally, and spiritually.

No, not at all! We welcome people of all beliefs.

Whether you’re experiencing doubt, deconstructing what you believe, or have a different belief system altogether, we’re here for you. You also don’t have to be at the “right place” in your faith, be a Christian, live a certain way, or believe in God at all to come to counseling at Cornerstone. All of our therapists are clinically excellent and trained to meet you exactly where you’re at.

We’ll just say it again: we want to make it overt that we welcome you, wherever you are coming from. Christian, non-Christian or non-religious, we will respect and honor you and care for you with non-judgmental compassion and grace.

Therapy in general can be incredibly vulnerable. Knowing you’re sitting across from a brother or sister in Christ can help increase feelings of safety and understanding. Having shared experiences (and similar frustrations) can further create a bridge of trust between you and the therapist you choose. Especially if you are wrestling with church hurt, spiritual questions, religious abuse, or are struggling to reconcile a loving God with the pain of your experiences — we understand.

Our counselors want to create a safe space for you to fully examine all aspects of your story, including your faith, in a way that helps you feel valued, comforted, and empowered, without judgment. If you desire it, your therapist can read scripture, pray with you, and discuss questions about God — whatever you are comfortable with. We guarantee that even after your session is over, your counselor will still be praying for you. As the body of Christ, we want to support you fully, in whatever way is best for you.

You Don’t Have to Walk Through This Alone

Whether you’re facing a specific challenge, working through a difficult season, or simply want support as you grow, counseling can be a meaningful step forward. Find a Christian counselor who understands your needs and shares your desire to integrate faith with professional, compassionate care.
