What is Christian counseling?

What is Play Therapy?

Play therapy is a type of counseling for children that uses play as their “language” to express thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Children often communicate through play more easily than words. At Cornerstone, our Christian play therapists provide a safe, supportive environment to help children heal and grow.

Who can benefit from play therapy?

Children of all ages can benefit, especially those who:

  • Struggle to manage emotions like anxiety or overwhelm
  • Have aggression or behavioral issues at home or school
  • Have challenges with friends or social skills
  • Have experienced trauma or stressful events
  • Need help with adjustments or transitions in life

Play therapy also supports parents by helping them understand their child’s needs.

What are the benefits of play therapy?

Children may experience:

  • Improved emotional expression and regulation
  • Better problem-solving and coping skills
  • Stronger parent-child relationships
  • Healing from trauma or difficult experiences
  • Greater confidence and self-understanding

What is expected of me as a parent or caregiver?

Your involvement depends on your child’s age and needs. Younger children may need more parent participation, while older children often benefit from private therapy sessions. Therapists provide updates and guidance to help you support your child at home.

Are there legal or administrative requirements?

Yes. If your child has a parenting plan, custody agreement, or court documentation, we are required to request copies of this documentation and in most cases, attempt to collect signatures from the biological parents or legal guardian that has medical decision making rights, before the child can begin therapy with us.
