What is Gestalt Therapy?

Gestalt therapy is a present-centered, relational approach that focuses on awareness and how you experience yourself, others, and the world in real time. Rather than diagnosing or fixing you, Gestalt therapy is grounded in the belief that growth emerges through awareness and discovery. Therapy is co-created — meaning we pay close attention to what unfolds between us in the room and allow insight to arise through curiosity rather than pressure. Emotions, sensations, and reactions are understood as meaningful forms of communication, not problems to eliminate. By noticing how you make contact with your true self, where you feel stuck, or how you protect yourself, we begin to understand creative adjustments that once helped you survive but may no longer serve you. This shared process supports greater choice, self-support, and integration of all of your experiences into one whole person.

In sessions, Gestalt therapy is experiential and collaborative, shaped by what emerges moment to moment rather than a rigid agenda. Together, we may slow things down, notice bodily sensations, explore emotions as they arise, or experiment gently with new ways of expressing yourself. These experiences are always approached with consent and respect for your boundaries, and nothing is forced. Healing in Gestalt therapy happens through authentic contact — both with yourself and within the therapeutic relationship — where insight is discovered by all in the room rather than imposed by the therapist. Over time, many people feel more grounded, more whole, and more able to trust their inner wisdom. At its heart, Gestalt therapy supports you in reclaiming your natural capacity to regulate, adapt, and live with greater presence, authenticity, and freedom.
