Philosophy and Therapeutic Approach

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” – Dr. Suess

As a child, I was mesmerized by the playful poetry of Dr. Suess.  I often hoped my life would turn out like the adventures in his stories. I was fully confident after graduating that my head full of brains and my shoes full of feet were too smart to go down any not-so-good street.

But often we find ourselves down streets we didn’t think we’d be …some good…some bad…some simply in between. Whether by your own choice or by no choice of your own, life can bring you down some “not-so-good” streets. Here you may feel trapped and all alone with no way out.

You are not alone!  You can get back on the road reassured that those “brains in your head” and “feet in your shoes” can find hope and healing. Through therapy, you can have a safe space to talk, be helped to realize your full potential, and make positive changes in your life.

What to Expect in Therapy

Therapy is your time! This is your time to focus on what you would like to talk about. There is no one-size-fits-all model, and you will find that there may be several different ways we approach our time together.

Initially, we will take the first few sessions to get to know one another, talk about what brings you in, and collaborate on your therapeutic goals. I will be fully present with you during each session to ensure you feel heard. You will be listened to and encouraged each step of the way.

During your therapeutic journey, there may be times when you feel stuck and unsure of where to go next…not a problem, you may simply need a nudge in a positive direction. This is a safe environment where you are free to explore your own thoughts without feeling judged or ostracized.

Personal Qualifications and Experience

From a young age, I have had an interest in human development. Getting to see someone grow, whether spiritually, mentally, or emotionally, has always been near and dear to my heart. I have been blessed to be a part of this development through leading children’s ministries, teaching bible lessons at youth groups and Sunday School, working overseas, and mentoring young adults. Recently, my most rewarding experience has been raising my 2-year-old son.

My greatest teacher has been my own experience with mental health. At a young age, I struggled with bouts of depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. Going through these isolating occurrences and experiencing God’s grace gave me a heart of compassion for those going through similar trials.

I am currently a graduate student pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Crown College. I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Biblical Studies as well as a graduate degree in Counseling in Student Affairs in Higher Education.

Personal Interests

Perhaps due to my Southwest Nebraskan childhood where I was surrounded by miles upon miles of cattle and cornfields, I have always had a fascination with waterparks! There is something thrilling about twisting, turning, and falling through the air down a water slide that, in my opinion, you just cannot beat! Aside from that, I find my greatest joy in being outside biking, jogging, and spending time with family.

I have been married to my wife Nicole for 5 years and we have a son who just turned two. We enjoy eating out…but only if there is a playground nearby. I would like to say that since we live in Colorado we have been climbing all of the 14’ers and are avid snow skiers, but in reality, we spend a lot of our time watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and pretending to eat plastic food. We love it!
