Every day, EMS professionals like you step into situations that demand courage, skill, and compassion. At Cornerstone Christian Counseling, we understand the challenges you face because several of our counselors previously worked as first responders. Therefore, we are committed to helping you find support before the weight becomes overwhelming.
To help us better serve your community, we are grateful to partner with Path4EMS, a program that helps Colorado EMS professionals get free and confidential counseling services.
Below is a simple guide on how the program works and how EMS professionals in Colorado can get connected to care.
What Is Path4EMS?
Path4EMS is a free and confidential resource created to support the physical and emotional wellbeing of EMS professionals across Colorado.
The program helps ensure that EMS providers have access to resources that support both their immediate mental health needs and long-term resilience.
To accomplish this mission, Path4EMS works with a growing network of organizations and providers in Colorado (like Cornerstone) who are all dedicated to supporting the EMS community.
What kind of Counseling Support is Available for Colorado EMS Professionals?
Through the Path4EMS program, Colorado-certified or licensed EMS professionals may receive up to 15 counseling sessions per year for mental wellness support.
These sessions are designed to help EMS professionals navigate challenges such as:
- Trauma and PTSD
- Burnout and compassion fatigue
- Anxiety and depression
- Marital and family strain
- Addiction
The program is structured to remove common barriers to care:
- No upfront cost to participants
- Confidential enrollment process
- In-person or telehealth counseling options
If needed, counseling sessions can also be utilized by immediate family members.
How the Path4EMS Program Works
The process to enroll in Path4EMS is simple and confidential.
Step 1: Contact the Path4EMS coordinator
To get started, reach out to program coordinator Jessica Nelsen by phone (720-288-2566) or email (jessica.nelsen@state.co.us).
Step 2: Certification verification
The coordinator verifies your EMS certification, which typically takes less than a minute.
Step 3: Participant ID assignment
Once verified, you receive a unique ID number for Path4EMS that is used to track services confidentially.
Step 4: Schedule counseling
Once you choose a clinical provider within the Path4EMS network (like us), the coordinator will send us your Path4EMS ID number. Then you just contact us so we can help you pick the right counselor and schedule your first session.
This streamlined process helps EMS professionals like you get support quickly and privately.
