Philosophy and Therapeutic Approach

Your story is a treasure. A treasure that is worth knowing, understanding, and honoring. It is in the places where we feel stuck that we can draw from who we are, what we value, and the experiences of life to help move us into a greater version of ourselves. I draw from attachment theory to give perspective on how we respond to others, somatic experiencing to understand how our bodies respond to our experience in the world, and acceptance and commitment theory to help give direction and keep the momentum going within the therapeutic process.

I believe we all have needs for love, connection, and intimacy, and we all have pain, barriers, and wounds that get in the way. I seek to integrate sound, evidence-based practice with the uniqueness of your personality, context, and story to help you achieve your goals and live a wholehearted, joyful, and authentically connected life.

what to Expect in Therapy

I desire for you to feel fully seen, known, and accepted during our time together, and for that connection to give you the strength to face hard things and process your lived experience. We will spend time unpacking your story, the experiences of your past, and what makes you tick now. As we process together, we will look for patterns and themes, remain curious about them, and find a direction that aligns with your values and desires. I will often ask you to become aware of your body and the sensations you feel so we can better understand your distinct nervous system and give you insight into navigating the world from a place of safety within your body.

Ultimately, you are the expert on you. I consider it an honor to be invited into your story and walk alongside you in your pursuit of a more holistic and integrated life.

Personal Qualifications and Experience

I have been involved in church ministry for the past 15 years. I love walking with people in their struggles with life and with God. I have helped families and friends mend and grow in empathy, walked alongside teenagers in mental health crises, and been trained in a biblically-based and trauma-informed group processing modality.

However, it is my lived experience of the power of an empathic witness to our wounds and stories that inspired me to seek a formal Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree. It is the non-judgemental witness of our stories that can usher in the wave of healing we need and desire.

Personal Interests

I was raised in Colorado Springs and married my high school sweetheart at 20 years old! Our parents were right… that was young. We moved to the Midwest for 10 years, where we graduated with our undergraduate degrees and learned to appreciate the finer things in life, like Skyline Chili (which is still pretty gross). We moved back to Colorado 7 years ago and are so thankful to be near the mountains and family.

My husband is a wickedly smart aerospace engineer. We have two elementary-aged children and a wonky little pup named Eddie. I enjoy hosting dinner parties, my favorite night of the month is book club, and I’ll never say no to adventuring with my family locally and abroad.

“Empathy moves us beyond compassion to kindness and human flourishing. In this sense, it is not just something that is intended to reduce pain, but also increase hope…” Curt Thompson
