Philosophy and Therapeutic Approach
Therapy excites me because I love helping people. Often times it is hardest for us to see the positive parts of ourselves. Facilitating that reflection for people is one of the most joyous activities for me. Helping people find power in thought processing as well as finding their inner strength, which has always been there, is as exciting for me as it is for the client. Everyone has value. Everyone is special: children to adults. Everyone has purpose. Sometimes we just do not realize it until someone is there to help us with that realization. I have been blessed to be that person.
What to Expect in Therapy
Therapy is a safe place to express oneself, to share one’s thoughts and feelings. It is a place for not only your words to be heard but your feelings to be understood. Therapy is a place for the individual to learn how to strengthen themselves by learning how to ground themselves to the current moment and allow cognitive abilities to reign their emotions.
My goal for therapy is to create and maintain a warm inviting environment for the client to enter and understand that all differences are welcome. The client’s feelings and thoughts will be heard. All therapy plans will incorporate the client’s individuality and uniqueness because I believe that one size does not fit all. Each person is different and special.
Personal Qualifications and Experience
I am a Master’s-level graduate counselor who is a Florida Mental Health Counselor Intern (FMHCI). I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families from all levels of society via telehealth or in-office sessions. I have also worked with the children and adolescent population within the school system for the Full Service School (FSS) organization. I have assisted clients with the diagnoses of anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, and trauma related symptoms.
I have always been a person who believed in serving others and have a true love for people and the area I live which is the Jacksonville, St. Augustine area.
Personal Interests
Though I do not get to engage much anymore, I am an outdoor junky and daddy’s girl at heart. So, anything to do with digging in the dirt and gardening, whether flowers or vegetables, I am all in. I also enjoy being near water, especially the ocean and fishing. Being anywhere watching nature is also a rejuvenator for me. I also love to play games which I employ often when working with children and adolescents when engaging in therapy.
I have been married for 7 years and am a mother of an adult son, adult stepson, and college-aged stepdaughter. Though my husband and I are empty nesters, we still have a 12-year-old Yorkie-Poo named Nike.
