You may have heard, but we recently brought some incredible Masters-level interns onto our team and we want YOU to get to know a bit about each of them and to hear their fun personalities in our interview-style blog series! Next up is Mrs. Cayla Holloman!

1. What draws you to the counseling field?  Why do you want to become a therapist?
I believe that we are created by a relational God, and therefore are relational beings made for connection!  I believe counseling provides a unique opportunity to be seen, known, and valued.  I love this work.  It may sound like a typical or cliche answer, but I love it and I truly believe in it.  I believe there is power and meaning to be found in our stories, and I find it to be an honor to partner with you in finding yours.

2. Have you been through counseling yourself?  What was that experience like for you?
Yes, I have and still am!  The time I first went, after an unexpected loss in my life, I can remember feeling like it was such a relief to know that what I was experiencing wasn’t out of the ordinary, or crazy, or any of the other lies I kept telling myself!  I felt normal, heard, and understood.  I also admit, I used to think I could just go to counseling whenever I didn’t feel my best, it was only when I began to go more regularly– even when I didn’t feel maybe as bad– that I realized how good it was for me–through all my highs, lows, and everything in between.
3. What’s something you would tell someone who’s thinking about talking with a counselor?

Counseling is for everyone, and for any situation, no matter how big or how small.  Let’s go ahead and drop the stigma now!  Counseling is so that you can be a better you! And there is no shame in that.

4. What is your favorite type of clientele/what are your specialties?

Women, young adults, teens! Being in ministry myself, I also have a heart for ministry leaders, and those who have experienced any type of “church-hurt” in whatever way.  Helping people to navigate and work through grief and loss is also dear to my heart.

5. Tell us one random or fun fact about yourself
My husband and I have season tickets to see the nuggets this year, we’re pumped! Go nuggets!
