Philosophy and Therapeutic Approach
We all have a unique story. Our stories develop from our different backgrounds, environments, experiences, challenges, and triumphs. Pain and suffering are woven throughout every story but can sometimes lead us to believe we are alone in our struggles. My desire is to create a safe space where we unpack these struggles together, and you know that you matter, your story can be shared, your voice will be heard, and you are not alone.
Our past experiences shape us. Issues from our past are often connected to our present concerns, and we may find ourselves stuck in patterns and habits that hold us back from achieving our goals.
Although the past influences us, we do not have to remain stuck there. We have the capacity to learn, change, heal, and grow. I would love to join you in finding healing and redemptive meaning within your story, moving into healthier ways of living, and discovering new hope and purpose for your life.
What to Expect in Therapy
Taking that first step to begin counseling is a courageous act. You will be invited into a compassionate, collaborative therapeutic relationship where you are met with warmth, acceptance, respect, and curiosity. I consider it an honor to come alongside you to support your journey and to be entrusted with your story.
I want to learn all about what makes you YOU. What are some past experiences that have shaped you, and how do they affect the way you view yourself and interact with others? What is your current environment, and how does that impact you? What are your values, goals, and aspirations? What makes you come alive?
My passion is to draw out your strengths and giftings and support you in reaching your greatest potential. Together, from a holistic perspective of treating mind, body, and spirit, we can identify, work through, and remove hindrances to your growth and well-being, while discovering ways to help you truly thrive in life.
Personal Qualifications and Experience
When earning my bachelor’s degree in psychology, I was very involved with my college’s mission trip program. I spent summers serving people in the Philippines, India, and Ukraine. While in college, I also volunteered as a counselor at a crisis pregnancy center and worked as a dietary server in a retirement community.
After graduating, I began working as a youth counselor in a residential treatment facility for juvenile delinquent boys and continued working with high-risk youth when I moved to Colorado. I shifted my career path to become an elementary school teacher and taught both fourth and sixth grade. I am now substitute teaching and have experience working with preschool through twelfth-grade students. I have spent much of that time working with students who have significant special needs. I am currently a graduate student at Colorado Christian University, obtaining my Master of Arts in both Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling.
Personal Interests
I am grateful to live in beautiful Colorado with my wonderful husband and our four canine companions. When not walking, snuggling, and tending to our pack of pups, I love spending time in the mountains, especially to ski and hike.
Besides dogs, skiing, and hiking, some of my other favorite things include music, singing praise and worship, connecting with loved ones, laughing, cooking/baking, deep conversations, coffee with hazelnut creamer, and making time to unplug, reflect, and recharge.
