Philosophy and Therapeutic Approach

“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.” – Seneca

Are you wondering what your life may look like if you found your way to peace and clarity?

Perhaps you find yourself longing for relief, comfort, and understanding. My friend, I have been in this same place…wondering about a life free from current struggles, yearning for tranquility, yet alone in my own dark, quiet cave.

To be clear, this is not a setup for me to tell you that therapy is a magical cure-all. I believe that Jesus Christ is the ultimate restorer of our hearts and the perfect provider of peace, comfort, and change. However, I also believe that God has created the therapeutic profession as a means of facilitating His hope and restoration.

This is the space where you and I will meet—a space where you will be actively listened to with empathy, respect, and unwavering support. A nonjudgmental space where you will be truly heard. I am here to accept who you are as a person and sit with you in pain and discomfort.

What to Expect in Therapy

– Individual Counseling

If you find yourself troubled with anxiety, depression, unwanted sexual behavior, trauma, relationship issues, grief and loss, or developing your career/calling, I believe that the solutions lie within your story. Together we will thoughtfully engage your story with kindness through Narrative and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy techniques. I will compassionately support you as you discover how to use your story to create understanding, relief, and change.

– Premarital and Early Marriage Counseling

Premarital therapy is an act of preventative maintenance that enables you to care for your relationship and prevent problems before they happen. You will be prepared for common issues found in married life such as sex, communication, finances, and family dynamics. Whether you come for premarital or early marriage counseling, our time together will involve guided conversations to help you explore one another’s values and gently address concerns, conflicts, and undisclosed topics or feelings. This support could be in the form of general discussion, or through one of our premarital assessments (Prepare/Enrich, SYMBIS – Save Your Marriage Before It Starts).

– Individual Teen Counseling

My primary goal when counseling teenagers is to support them in healing trauma and attachment wounds that lead to mental health challenges and behavioral issues. Developing trust in a safe, calm space allows teens to open up about what may be difficult or distressing topics. My support to teens focuses on gaining confidence and knowledge of the self, capturing negative thought patterns, and replacing these with positive narratives that lead to healthy, long-term coping skills.

Personal Qualifications and Experience

From a young age, I was fascinated by the power of human connection. This curiosity about interpersonal relationships grew exponentially when, after college, I joined a ministry and traveled around the country for two years. I spoke to teens, parents, and individual adults about the power of human relationships and how the connection we have to one another can be a source of understanding and healing.

I experienced this healing for myself when I finished traveling and began my own therapeutic journey. I gained insight, clarity, comfort, and resolution by processing through my own trauma story. This ignited a passion in me to help others navigate their challenges, so I pursued my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University which I received in December of 2022.

I now focus on practicing as a Narrative and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy-informed clinician. My experience and training have given me a unique perspective on the power of story. I hope to help you discover your true potential through the exploration of your story.

Personal Interests

Like many Coloradans, my escape is in the great outdoors! I have a passion for hiking, mountain biking, camping, and general adventuring with my beautiful wife, Ashleigh, of four years as well as with our two dogs—Leika (Entlebucher Mountain Dog) and Maverick (English Cream Golden Retriever). My indoor-enthusiast hobbies include writing, woodworking, and watching way, way too many movies!
