“A man writing a story is too excited about the story itself to sit back and notice how he is doing it.”
 – C. S. Lewis

“It is just in health and spontaneity that men appear most different, most unpredictable, most eccentric.”
 – Fritz Perls

“I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.”
– Ecclesiastes 3:12–13 (NIV)

Philosophy and Therapeutic Approach

If you’re looking for someone to witness your experience, I’m here for all that you bring. I am an experiential therapist. And, while that is a clinical label for the way I’m trained, it’s also a style that I creatively embody. Do you want to practice social skills in role-plays, analyze dreams, or talk about the deep things in life? I’m your guy.

I’m interested in you, and I’m interested in what will emerge between us. My greatest strength is taking different parts of your story and synthesizing them into a whole. Often in sessions, the clients I work with say, “I’ve never thought about it that way.” I love to think deeply about the world, and I invite you to join me in exploring and making meaning of your inner world. I have yet to meet a client who I am not fascinated with endlessly. I’m a facilitator in session and a facilitator in the art and science of you. Let’s discover your world together.

What to Expect in Therapy

I’m skilled at cutting through the noise and getting to the heart of things. I’m not here to jump to conclusions and we’ll move at your own pace, but I’m more like MacGyver than an auditor in session. Make no mistake about it, though. There’s nothing haphazard about it. What comes across as intuitive in session is the result of hard work. Between sessions, I’m reading papers, refining my learning, and doing personal work because I’m always trying to tailor my work to your needs.

Maybe you’re a parent trying to figure out if I’m the right fit for your child. I understand you’re placing a lot of trust in me. I don’t take that lightly. Before starting as a therapist, I had years of childcare experience. Now I work with kids in therapy and want to offer my service because I know that it can be hard to find a good male therapist who can work with boys. It can be difficult to build trust with younger guys, but I am comfortable doing that.

I also love talking about God and the Christian faith with my clients. I do emphasize that I am not a pastor. I believe strongly in the role of the spiritual authorities that God has put in your life. At the same time though, I know my stuff. I love studying the Bible, and the Christian worldview strongly informs everything that I do. I know and love what God has to say about the way He designed us. Maybe that’s a difficult subject to broach. I believe that we are designed to know God, but our need for him can be misused. I’m ready to meet you wherever you’re at.

Personal Qualifications and Experience

While I am an intern student, I’ve done extensive training outside of school to refine my style and get additional feedback to grow as a therapist.

I’ve been working with people for a long time in various fields such as education, customer service, and management. Even before working as a therapist, I read a lot and read widely. I’ve always loved understanding the human condition in depth.

I am currently studying at Colorado Christian University to receive my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health and at the Gestalt Institute of the Rockies in my third semester.

Personal Interests

I’ve probably hammered home that I love to read. I’m interested in the thinkers who have changed the world, regardless of how much I agree with them. Right now I’m jumping between Aquinas, Marx, and Freud as just a few examples. I enjoy fantastical stories. I’m a Nintendo enthusiast, Star Wars fanboy, and semi-gym bro.

I live with my wife, Anna, who is also a therapy student, in Evergreen, Colorado. We go on lots of adventures together (hikes, mountain drives, trying new towns and restaurants), play Mario Party, and talk all things therapy.
