Philosophy and Therapeutic Approach
I believe real change happens in relationships. We hurt, heal, and grow as we navigate our relationships with others. I am passionate about working with individuals and families to help them move towards greater health in their personal lives, relationships, and faith. As a counselor, I utilize a therapeutic relationship to walk alongside my clients on their journey and both serve and love them along the way. I use evidence-based approaches along with allowing the Holy Spirit to guide the process together.
What to Expect in Therapy
The decision to start counseling is often very difficult, as is the choice in whom you will entrust your story to. When you step into the counseling room with me, you can expect me to believe in you, to care about your story, and to partner with you in your process. I utilize a combination of humor and directness along with the ability to listen empathetically. My motto in life is that life is hard enough so let’s have some fun along the way! Expect to laugh, cry, heal, and grow.
Personal Qualifications and Experience
My entire adult life has been spent in ministry. I have served in both church and counseling ministry for the last 20 years. I graduated with a Bachelors’s and Masters degree in Theology before finishing a Masters in Clinical Mental Health from Denver Seminary in 2013.
After graduating, I served as an associate pastor while also working as a family therapist in several different clinic environments. I trained in play therapy while working with children early in my counseling career before focusing on teens and adults. I recently moved back to Washington State after living in Colorado. I have specific training in EMDR therapy and am a certified Prepare and Enrich Counselor.
Personal Interests
The very best part of my life is my family. I am married to the most amazing woman I have ever known. Together we have a little boy who is adventurous and hilarious. I love to read, run, and play and watch sports. I am an avid Arizona sports fan and enjoy bashing on all Denver sports teams. Most of all, I am in love with Jesus Christ! He loves me, saved me, and adopted me into the family. I am thrilled to be a Christian!
