“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” – Victor Frankl
Philosophy and Therapeutic Approach
How are you doing? Genuinely.
Let’s start anywhere. Tell me about your day, or whatever’s on your mind. Let’s talk about your hobbies, or your friends. And then as it feels natural, we can talk about why you’re here.
Whether I’m working with kids or adults, it’s important for me to enter into our space as a human, not just another “adult” in the room. I want to cultivate a light, collaborative, and creative space to connect. I want you to truly know I’m a trustworthy person and feel comfortable being yourself before we dive in deep.
Especially for kids and teens, I want to ease any worries–you’re not going to get into trouble talking with me. I protect your ability to speak openly about what you’re going through. What you have to say is important, your problems are real. And I also believe you have the strength to overcome those challenges!
In every session, my hope is that you leave feeling truly heard and empowered with practical tools to confidently face whatever challenges come your way.
What to Expect in Therapy
Therapy is a collaborative space where you are safe to explore your inner world and build stronger connections with yourself and others. Life’s challenges are opportunities for growth, and together, we will turn those challenges into purposeful change.
My therapeutic philosophy blends Existential Counseling, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you discover meaning, navigate emotions, and reframe unhelpful thought patterns. I draw from additional theories as needed to align with your goals, offering insights along the way.
During therapy, you will find an atmosphere of warmth, curiosity, and genuine care. We will uncover the patterns influencing your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors as well as establish and work toward your goals. I use evidence-based techniques while tailoring the process to meet you or your child’s unique needs.
Therapy is a journey with an intended end date focused on helping you address the concerns that brought you here. Even when therapy concludes, the door always remains open for you to return during challenging seasons.
Whatever you are navigating, each therapy session is designed to leave you with deeper insights and practical tools to enhance your life.
Personal Qualifications and Experience
I hold a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health with a specialty in Marriage and Family Therapy from William & Mary in Virginia. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate and a Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate. My training includes preliminary coursework in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Neurofeedback, and I am dedicated to continuous learning to expand my skills in evidence-based approaches.
My experience includes working with children (utilizing play therapy), teens, individuals, couples, and families on concerns such as relational dynamics, anxiety, addiction, and life transitions.
Having worked with children throughout my life, I am able to provide the structure and support a child can lean on as they start to explore the messiness of whatever reason they are coming into counseling.
I am dedicated to staying current with research and best practices to ensure you and your family receive the highest standard of care.
Personal Interests
Outside of therapy, my hobbies shift with the seasons. Currently, I enjoy playing sports, and spending time at the gym. I am also making my way through audiobooks as I tackle various house projects. I love hanging out with my wife, going to concerts, and trying new restaurants.
In the past, I’ve been known to do fun things like join an improv group, play a Super Smash Bros tournament, or move to Mexico.
