Philosophy and Therapeutic Approach

One of the things I love about therapy is getting to partner with you and hear your unique story. I believe that through your story, you can find your values, personality, beliefs, desires, and needs, and ultimately find “meaning within one’s own life,” as Irvin Yalom would say. You are the most important piece of the therapeutic puzzle. Everything you have gone through up to this point is crucial in your path toward growth and healing. My goal is to create a warm, safe space where you can share your story as we embark on your therapeutic journey together.

“The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out” (Proverbs 20:5). I believe that you carry ‘deep waters’ within your heart—swimming in these depths can be challenging and overwhelming to navigate alone. It would be an honor to explore those deep waters with you, providing support, empathy, and understanding along the way.

what to Expect in Therapy

Beginning the search for therapy is often the hardest step! Finding a therapist with whom you trust enough to share your story and taking the leap of faith to schedule an appointment can be incredibly challenging, and even frustrating. You are taking the first steps in this difficult process—that deserves to be celebrated!

In our initial sessions, we will work together to establish the process and tools that will work best for you, and decide whether we are a good fit. If we are a good fit, we will begin creating goals based on your unique perspective and experiences. You will be given the steering wheel. You get to control the pace and choose what you are comfortable sharing, or not sharing. My hope as we move forward together is for you to feel heard, understood, and known.

Therapy is a journey akin to what you find in all the greatest stories. While you might find yourself in dense forests, murky waters, or stumbling over rocks and rough terrain, each step takes you closer to your goals. The therapeutic process is not about figuring out how to ignore or avoid those forests and stumbles, but rather learning how to navigate them.

I am happy to incorporate spiritual practices into therapy such as prayer, Scripture, etc. I will only do this with your permission after we have communicated and outlined what you would like (or not like) to include in sessions. We can also integrate art, music, nature, or anything else that might be soul-nurturing for you.

Personal Qualifications and Experience

Ever since I was a teenager, I have loved the idea of psychology. Throughout high school and college, I knew that this was the field I wanted to go into. My studies have focused on couples, familial relationships, anxiety, and trauma. My passion lies not only in understanding the mind, body, and soul, but also in using that knowledge to support you on your journey toward growth and healing.

The relationships we build and foster in our lives are extremely important. I have always felt called to work in the relational aspects of people’s lives. I have volunteered in youth groups, mentored college students, and led prayer and meditation groups. When I worked as a barista during college, I focused on connecting with customers and ensuring they had the best experience possible. As a counselor, I have found that the best work we can do is often through relationships. God created us to be in relationship with one another—no one is designed to be alone.

Personal Interests

 If you can’t already tell, I am a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings. I believe it is the perfect example of life’s journey, filled with powerful themes, quotes, and representations of life. I also enjoy listening to music, going to the movies, playing board games, and occasionally binge-watching a murder mystery show on Netflix.

I moved to Colorado with my amazing wife, Maggie, about a year and a half ago. We moved from Tucson, AZ, and have been loving it here. I am currently pursuing my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Colorado Christian University with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy.
