    Philosophy and Therapeutic Approach

It is an incredible honor to hear people’s stories. We come with our hurts, our brokennesses, and our failures; but at the same time, we often miss our quiet strengths and perseverance that are present too. Research tells us that the single most important factor in effective therapy is not technique or theory, but relationship. My goal as your therapist will be to join you as a teammate on your journey to wellness either individually or relationally. You tell me where you want to go, and I will use all of the tools I have gathered through my training and education to help you get there.

    What to Expect in Therapy

All of us who seek counseling are unique, with individual needs, goals, and perspectives. In your first session or two, we will discuss why you are in therapy and what you want to achieve. We will create a plan for how to structure our time together, what you desire to work on, and the therapeutic style that is best for you. Counseling is incredibly vulnerable whether you are doing it for the first time or the 100th. I will make sure you understand what we are doing together, and why, every step of the way.  I will be transparent with you from the beginning, and I will work to build trust with you as my client over time.
I am a marriage and family therapist. This means I come with a perspective about the context you come from. Your family, your community, your resources, and your history all matter for understanding how you got to where you are right now, and how you can best achieve your goals individually, as a couple, or as a family. We will discuss your familial and personal history as we work to understand your needs and goals. I work with couples, families, friends, and individuals.

I believe all people are made in the image of God, and I personally come from a Christian-based perspective. I have lived and worked with people of many different religions, as well as people who claim no faith at all, and I have friends from a wide variety of backgrounds. If you would like to incorporate spirituality into our work together, I am happy to do so from a wide variety of religious perspectives. I am also comfortable working with you to heal from wounding religious experiences if that is part of your story.

    Personal Qualifications and Experience

I have been fascinated with people and relationships since I was a child. I do not remember a time in which I was not interested in the people around me and the relationships they were in. I formally studied both in college by double majoring in English and Psychology and receiving a bachelor’s degree from Olivet Nazarene University. I am currently studying for my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Colorado Christian University. In between my degrees, I have spent time working with families in childcare and teaching ESL to immigrants.

    Personal Interests

I enjoy writing, hiking, reading, and playing with my 3 boys. Sometimes for stress relief, I like to pick up heavy things and put them down again. I have been married to my husband Jonathon for 16 years, and we connect over rigorous religious debates, being in the great outdoors of Colorado, and video games.
