PHILOSOPHY AND THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
The counseling relationship is a deeply personal one, and I approach our time together with curiosity, respect, and compassion. I consider it an honor to come alongside you right where you are. It’s hard being human sometimes—my goal is to create a space where you feel safe to explore and process your story and move toward healing.
None of us is meant to walk alone. I am here to walk alongside you for a season, listen, understand, ask questions, and use the skills I have learned to help you move forward in the ways you desire. Whether exploring identity, processing trauma, discovering strengths, exploring relational struggles, or learning new ways to navigate life’s challenges, I am committed to you becoming more of who you are meant to be. I also believe empathy, non-judgment, and understanding are vital to our counseling relationship.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THERAPY
Telling the truth about our stories is important for wholeness; I aim to make our sessions a place for you to feel comfortable doing that. We will spend time getting to know each other, and I will ask a lot of questions with the intent of greater understanding about what makes you you and the experiences and relationships that have had a part in shaping you.
We will identify goals and objectives for your therapeutic journey and work together to take steps toward improved mental health. There will be practical as well as psychological aspects to the process. I will invite you to work with me through a three-part framework: identity, relationships, and purpose. My desire is always to help you flourish as a human being.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing from Liberty University and am currently in the final stages of earning my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty as well. In addition to my counseling training, I am a professional musician and songwriter, which is a creative outlet that enriches my ability to connect with you on a deeper, more expressive level.
I have been in vocational Christian ministry for 20 years. As a wife of 25 years and mom to 5 amazing kids, there is quite a bit of life experience that blends into my counseling. Most recently, I completed my practicum working with children and adults at Creative Hope Counseling, focused on art-based interventions
PERSONAL LIFE AND INTERESTS
Exploring the mountains is one of my favorite things! Hiking, reading, travel, music, photography, and having good conversations over good food give me a lot of life, too. I’ve been married to Matthew for 25 years; he’s also a counselor and musician, and we love hanging out with our kids, whose ages are 15-24.
